Free NBA Lineup Optimizer
The 2026-27 NBA season opens October 20, 2026. Learn the DraftKings and FanDuel roster rules now, then return when live slates reopen to compare the player pool and build a cap-legal lineup.
How do I build a free NBA DFS lineup?
Open the NBA lineup builder, choose DraftKings or FanDuel, select a slate, and build a roster from the available projections. You can lock players you want, exclude players you do not, and adjust exposure before rebuilding.
NBA slates return October 20
There is no empty player pool to inspect during the break because the 2026-27 season has not tipped off. The builder will repopulate when NBA slate data returns. Until then, this guide explains exactly what changes between DraftKings and FanDuel and which controls will be waiting when contests open.
What the NBA optimizer does
The individual player pool puts projected points, salary, and calculated value together. Sort and filter the rows instead of moving between a projection sheet and a contest lobby.
DraftKings builds eight-player lineups under a $50,000 cap, including G, F, and UTIL flexibility. FanDuel builds nine-player lineups under a $60,000 cap with two slots at each guard and forward position plus center.
Keep a core play in every build, remove a player from consideration, or use the injury control to avoid unavailable players. Position filters help narrow a slate without changing the underlying pool.
Set maximum exposure across generated lineups and add player-level caps. When complete projected-ownership data is available for the slate, the builder also reveals ownership-cap controls.
DraftKings and FanDuel use different NBA roster math
The platform switch changes more than the logo. DraftKings asks for PG, SG, SF, PF, and C, then adds G, F, and UTIL slots that can accept eligible players from more than one position. FanDuel uses two PGs, two SGs, two SFs, two PFs, and one center. That is eight players and a $50,000 salary cap on DraftKings versus nine players and a $60,000 cap on FanDuel. A roster that is legal and affordable on one site is therefore not a portable lineup for the other.
Scoring also changes the value of the same box-score line. The builder uses the selected platform's projections and contest rules, so start by choosing the site you will actually enter. Then compare projected points with salary and value inside that site's player pool. Multi-position eligibility matters most on DraftKings, where a guard or forward can solve several open slots and preserve flexibility for a late game.
Build around NBA roles, not football-style stacks
NBA optimization starts with individual minutes, usage, projection, salary, and position eligibility. There is no quarterback stack or bring-back rule here. Use locks for the players you have decided to build around, exclusions for the players you are fading, and exposure limits when you want to spread risk across several lineups. The player table also shows injury information, which matters because one late absence can change teammates' minutes and opportunity across the entire slate.
Classic and single-game NBA contests
Classic slates combine players from multiple games under the platform's normal roster and salary rules. Single-game contests use six players from one matchup. In the dedicated single-game builder, DraftKings labels the leader CPT and FanDuel labels it MVP; that slot receives a 1.5x multiplier for projected points and salary. Keeping the formats in separate builders prevents classic position rules from leaking into a showdown build.
A practical NBA lineup workflow
Choose the contest site and slate first. Scan the pool by position, projection, salary, and value, then lock only the players you are committed to using. Exclude players whose role, injury situation, or salary does not fit your approach. If you are generating a set, apply exposure limits before the build so one player does not appear more often than intended. Finally, review the completed roster against late injury news and rebuild when the slate changes. The optimizer handles cap and slot legality; the basketball decisions remain yours.
Common questions
- Is the NBA lineup optimizer free?
- Yes. A free account opens the NBA builder without a credit card, including classic and single-game slates.
- Does it use the right roster for each site?
- Yes. DraftKings uses eight classic roster slots and a $50,000 cap. FanDuel uses nine classic roster slots and a $60,000 cap. The builder switches its slots and cap when you change sites.
- Can I lock or exclude NBA players?
- Yes. Lock keeps a player in the build, while exclude keeps that player out. You can also filter the pool by position and set exposure limits across a lineup set.
- Does it support NBA single-game contests?
- Yes. Use the single-game builder for DraftKings CPT or FanDuel MVP contests. The leader slot applies the contest's 1.5x points and salary treatment.
